Fuerza Contra Alzheimer’s main vision is to lead the Hispanic effort in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. While many organizations have effectively communicated with Hispanics across the United States about the disease, the opportunity remains to do more.
With an Alzheimer’s risk rate one and half times higher than Caucasians, there are currently more than 200,000 Hispanics in the U.S. with Alzheimer’s. By 2050, there will be an estimated 1.3 million, an increase of over 60%. Utilizing music, theater, and art, Fuerza Contra Alzheimer’s hopes to engage the Hispanic community in ways that celebrate what it means to be Latino. Doing so will help us disseminate awareness of Alzheimer’s disease within our communities. The organization’s efforts will embrace culture and family life to meaningfully connect with Hispanic families that are affected by this horrifying disease. We will be creating an open space in which they are able to discuss both their experiences and concerns with the disease. It will also give the organization an opportunity to communicate with the Hispanic community and have an in-depth conversation about their personal experiences with Alzheimer’s.
We want them to know that they are not alone in their struggles and that there are many options available to them. We also want to make sure that they have unhindered access to the latest developments in Alzheimer’s research, treatment and support options, and general information on the disease.
Through its activities, Fuerza Contra Alzheimer’s hopes to engage and increase Hispanic participation in tackling the growing rate of Alzheimer’s disease and activities set up by both the organization and the National Alzheimer’s Association.
